The New York Times sounds like a “Hamburg fan” in a recent article of the “36 Hours in …” series, published on October 19, 2017. This comes just as the Lonely Planet travel guide put Hamburg fourth among the “Top 10” cities to visit in 2018. In January, The New York Times ranked Hamburg tenth among “52 Places to Go“ in 2017, and the only German destination on the list.

The Blue Port Hamburg installation designed by the light artist Michael Batz has been attracting international attention since 2008. Blue light once again transforms the Hanseatic city’s night-time port into a magically glowing stage. In 2017 the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and a number of the other buildings in the Northern European City are bathed in mystical blue light until 10 September.

Hamburg, 24 August 2017 (HHT) – A tremendous honour for both Miniatur Wonderland and Hamburg / Germany: for the second consecutive year, international guests to Germany have voted Miniatur Wonderland, the world’s biggest model railway, the number one tourist attraction in Germany. The survey was conducted by the German National Tourist Board (GNTB). Europapark Rust, an adventure park, was ranked second, and Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria came third. As a new entrant to the top 100, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, which opened its gates only recently, shot in at 51st place.

Yesterday evening witnessed the first meeting of the cruise liner Queen Mary 2 and the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, as the ship was taking a tour of Hamburg’s port. In 2004, when the elegant ocean liner first arrived in Hamburg, it started an unprecedented cruise boom in Northern Germany. It has since been regarded as a maritime icon by the city’s locals and is most warmly welcomed whenever it calls at the port of Hamburg.
