Festivals in Hamburg
Hamburg International Music Festival (27.04. - 29.05.2019)
In this fourth edition, the Hamburg International Music Festival once again offers an action-packed music programme for a brilliant conclusion to the artistic season. »Identity« is the motto of the 2019 festival – a complex theme that applies to the music programme in many different ways. Even today, in this age of globalisation and worldwide migration, the complex term is hotly debated. Perhaps the Hamburg International Music Festival can help shine a light on the darkness...
Elbjazz Festival (31.05. - 01.06.2019)
On the 1st and 2nd June the ELBJAZZ Festival shows about 50 concerts of all kinds of jazz and adjacent genres in front of the unique backdrop of the port of Hamburg. Over a two-day period perform well-known artists and newcomers who are connected in a direct but also extended sense with jazz. The open air and indoor stages are located in unique and unusual locations in north and south of the Elbe of the harbor of Hamburg. A new venue since 2017 is the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.
MS Artville (20.07.-18.08.2019)
Weeks before the MS Dockville Festival the area in Wilhelmsburg becomes an open-air-gallery which gathers artists from all over the world on some sort of playing field: a multidisciplinary ground spanning between port industry, cultural diversity and artistic underground. Four weeks of producing lead to many presentations and other events.
Spektrum Festival (03.08.2019)
As the little sister of the Dockville-Festival, Spektrum Festival takes place in August on the area of MS Dockville. A one-day snapshot of beat culture which offers classical rap as well as electronic experiments and genre crossing.
This year again, Hamburg's biggest, extraordinary fancy-ball invites you to dance and to celebrate. Colourful feathers, creative costumes, glitter and confetti - it will be colourful again in August in Wilhelmsburg. Several thousand shrilly dressed visitors dance to electronic music on the expansive MS-Artville-terrain.
This festival takes place right downtown at Hamburgs Großmarkt, so there is no need for camping. Elbriot is highly respected among so-called „metalheads“, so in August, it is going to be loud. Over 12.000 attendees celebrate rock and metal.
MS Dockville (16.- 19.08.2019)
For the 13th time the indie and electro scene will meet off the trodden paths in Wilhelmsburg south of the river Elbe. MS Dockville was formerly rated as an insider’s tip, but has grown over the years: While hosting 5.000 spectators in 2007 the festival had 60,000 patrons last year. 130 bands and DJs are going to perform at the port site.
Reeperbahn Festival (18.09.-21.09.2019)
For the 14th time Hamburg’s sinful mile offers a platform for music fans and professionals from the music and digital industries. Germany’s biggest club festival includes 600 events such as 400 concerts, 30 art events and over 150 conference panels. For international newcomer bands, the Reeperbahnfestival is a great opportunity to play to an audience of over 30.000 visitors.
For a two weeks period a trotting course in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld transforms into Germany’s biggest outdoor stage. Round about 35.000 people pilgrimaged to last year’s concert series. Hamburger Kultursommer happens for the eighth time in 2017.
